Elia Nafzger – Music Makes Me High EP

Underplay has always occupied the sleeker end of the Romanian minimal spectrum, and this latest EP from Elia Nafzger fits neatly into that lineage. Nafzger, who has already picked up support from the likes of Rhadoo and Praslea while appearing at Sunwaves and Supermarket Zurich, clearly understands how to make small ideas feel expansive.'Kinks In Sync' starts from a deceptively simple place with tight drum programming and a looping melodic fragment, functioning without the need for much else. 'Music Makes Me High' pushes things further with heavier low-end pressure and playful synth details flickering across the mix, then 'Master Effect' mines a similar kind of vertigo through filtering synth patterns and razor-sharp percussion. To see off the EP, 'Extending Circumstances' drifts into eerie afterhours territory with vapourous keys, dangling effects and a rumbling low end that murmurs from beneath.
