Ron Trent – Night Wind

Any new record from Ron Trent is an exciting arrival, such is the long-serving Chicagoan's mastery not only of spiritually enriching deep house, but also jazz-funk, ambient and jazz-flecked downtempo music. Yet even by Trent's sky-high standards, this two-tracker - the debut release from the Pink Dolphin label - is magical. Check first 'Night Wind', a near 12-minute epic in which undulating electronics, dreamy chords, jazzy guitar licks and his trademark hand percussion hits unfurl atop an ultra-deep dancefloor groove. 'Magic Is', meanwhile, applies the swirling, sun-soaked and deeply immersive sonics of his What Do The Stars Say To You album (as WARM) to deep house dancefloors - all Joe Clausell style beats, cascading electronics, starry chords and cosmic synth solos.
