Rex The Dog – Far Out!

Jake Williams has spent years making dance records that balance silliness with real craft, and this latest Rex The Dog release gets plenty from very simple ingredients. 'Far Out!' rebuilds Son'z Of A Loop Da Loop Era's rave classic around a hard 4/4 kick, tightly clipped hi-hats and a wiry synth arpeggio that keeps climbing higher until it practically starts foaming at the mouth. It's full of the kind of big, physical movement that makes people start pointing at each other across the dancefloor. The extended version stretches those same mechanics into something sweatier and more locked-in. 'I Need Your Body' shifts gears slightly, laying clipped vocal lines over springy bass pressure and thick trails of delay that smear across the drums in every direction.
