Garrett David – Come Closer

Given that he initially established the Global Swing label as an outlet for his own productions, it's something of a surprise to find that this is Garrett David's first missive on the imprint for almost four years. The Berlin-based Chicagoan is naturally in fine form throughout, delivering cuts that are as sonically attractive and musically rich as they are club-ready. Check first nostalgic opener 'Come Closer', where Fairlight stabs, bleeping melodies and sparkling piano riffs rise above shuffling garage-house beats and jazzy TB-303 bass, before wrapping your ears around the loose-limbed and jazzy deep house soul of 'One & Only (featuring Shanny)'. Over on side B, 'Kiss N Fly' is a more sleazy, sweat-soaked and spaced-out chunk of deep house retro-futurism, while 'Field Notes' is classy, dreamy and deliciously colourful.
