Players of a certain popular DVD board game will already be familiar with the pun "Atmosfear", but Chicago mainstay Glenn Underground got to it first, to his own end: house music. Once an ascendant from the city's South Side - and armed to the needle with disco and free jazz records, razor-cut to perfect torque-sequenced loops - Glenn helped formalise house music as we know it through his own operation, Strictly Jaz Unit. Atmosfear arrived as his debut album and an early full-length decree, kneading dense basslines and acid flickers, settling to a potent, patient, groove-flow mirroring city lineages from Larry Heard through Ron Hardy to Lil Louis.
