Ron Obvious – More Than This

Chicago-based Garrett David makes a diplomatic visit to Maslow Unknown's ambient house-leaning sublabel Healing Channel, teaming up with Ghost Recs nominee and underground UK powerhouse Ron Obvious. 'More Than This' is prefaced with a absurd poem (visible on the artwork) - "you're deep, just like a chasm, you've no enthusiasm" - but the music here is more or less deep house by the book, with a coolly futuristic twist, exquisite production and a knack for visual style setting it apart. 'More Than This' is our favourite, braving record-scratching 2-step slowed to a compelling snail's pace, and bearing no resemblance to the Roxy Music hit (unless you're hallucinating).
