Roman Flugel – Mutter

Roman Flugel – Mutter: More solo stuff from Alter Ego half and Soylent Green alchemist Roman Flugel! A very conceptual record which could have been easily released under his other moniker Eight Miles High, it starts with a piano/organ intro in a very classical music kinda way with “Say Hello”.
“Mutter” is next, 8 minutes of pounding heartbeat drums and Gamelan sounds. Roman put a lot of echo and dub effects in here as well and added a very percussive and terrific keyboard solo to it. Sven Väth already chose this track for his next compilation on Cocoon… so you better watch out! “Strich” is like a foreign soundscape with backwards sounds and some very heavy bass work followed by “Lao Aviation”, a track, named after a dodgy Thai airline… But this doesn’t effect the beauty and melodic twinkle-toed approach of it. It’s a bit reminiscing of his more laid back music with Alter Ego partner Jörn Elling Wuttke under the Sensorama name, anyone remember? “Danndann” features sounds like a calving iceberg and would be perfect for a soundtrack of an arctic film documentary. Let’s “Wave Good Bye” with more piano/organ smoothness and salute the open-minded libertine Mr. Flügel!
