Some people theorise that reptilian humanoids rule the world. Even if thats not true, there's definitely one ruling the underground electro scene, and perhaps coincidentally, he's from a continent that has the highest diversity of lizards in the world. Australian wizard Reptant has quickly shot to the top of electronic food chain with his bodacious live sets and distinct productions. His latest EP, 'Ballet Robotique', is served up by Dutch label Kalahari Oyster Cult, and is not only the Aussie's third release, but the label's 75th (not a scratch on the 869 known reptile species in Australia). Similar to his last two releases on the label, Reptant's acidic prowess and knack for a wiggy production couldn't be more apparent here. The title track sidewinds into your eardrums first as a 'robotique' voice preaches a disco sermon over glitchy flicks, stutters and a squelchy bass which coats your body in an infectious goo simply forcing you to groove. 'Future Proof' follows in a similarly sharp manner, as haunting synths swell amongst unadulterated 303 goodness before the final track ,'To Be Continued', signs off the record. A slightly more passive cut, this track completes the hypnotic, cold-blooded triptych, and leaves you with no doubt in your mind that Reptant is a snake charmer, and we are but his snakes.
