Nicola Cruz – Telemagenta EP

Review: Nicola Cruz has made many complex and musically intricate records, many of which combine esoteric electronics and nods to his Ecuadorian heritage with notably psychedelic sounds. On this Kalahari Oyster Cult outing, he's back in full-on dancefloor mode - with predictably inspired results. Check first title track 'Telemagenta', where vocoder vocal snippets, creepy chords and mind-mangling electronics ride a punchy groove, before admiring the mind-mangling, embrace-the-K-hole roll of 'Raindrop'. 'Vessel' sees him drop to chugging tempo and reach for deep, dreamy and immersive chords (as well as a few nods to dark disco), while 'Heliocenter' is a fine slab of immersive, hallucinatory electro.
