Guy J – Piece Of Cake

Tel Aviv producer Guy J, active since at least the mid-2000, keeps his own Early Morning crock boiled with an 11th disc, 'Piece Of Cake', a three-track EP and 22-minuter, making light work of his now freehanded craft in melodic progressive house. 'Piece Of Cake' opens with steady propulsion and finely tuned arrangement, rhythm and space held in careful balance as elements cycle with the seamlessness of an analogue preset bank, though he's only chosen a few here; 'Selector' wades further out, with spiked, squeaking details pushing into trippier terra infirma. Closing cut 'Against The Wall' reins it back into a firm, deliberate stride, anchored by punchy drums and faint, suggestive female vocal snippets.
