Culoe De Song – Webaba EP

Culoe De Song continues his long association with Berlin outlet Innervisions, a partnership that began with the release of the superb 'The Bright Forest' EP way back in 2009. In truth, the South African producer has moved between labels since - see his acclaimed outings on Mule Musiq and Watergate Records - with periodic returns to the Ame and Dixon-helmed imprint. In fact, this two-tracker is actually his first Innervisions outing for 12 years. Lead cut 'Wababa' is simply gorgeous - a light-touch and string-laden slab of deep Afro-house breeziness rich in carefully programmed percussion, atmospheric field recordings, dreamy chords and lilting melodies. He opts for a darker, moodier and more off-kilter Afro-tech-house sound on 'Far Away', with echoing piano motifs rising above a deep, shuffling groove.
