El Locomotion
Soulfuric
Review
Late 90s West Coast house is a small but crucial scene if you ask us. Now, some gems from that era resurface with this reissue on Sushitech - a label that has always done this sort of thing right. Here the Berlin crew restores a sought-after cut from Tim Buna and the late Eric James aka E.T.I. and Tony Hewitt. 'El Locomotion' runs on tight drum programming, acidic synth lines and a driving low-end with patterns looping in short, propulsive cycles. 'Soulfuric' leans into rougher textures, pairing swung percussion with distorted bass. The production retains tape grit and analogue edge and will be well known to those who have danced to the sm,einal Tyrant mix by Craig Richards and Lee Burridge. Properly essential.
