Lance DeSardi – Jazz Salad

Review: A few months ago, the long dormant Pacific Coast House imprint -a Los Angeles'-based stable that released lots of rather good West Coast deep house in the early 2000s - returned with a reissue of its first ever outing, California Coastal Commission's 'Straight No Chaser/Rhodes Through Space'. For reissue number two, they've opted to bring back Lance Desardi's 2003 EP 'Jazz Salad', which initially dropped on offshoot Pacific Traxx. The title track is classic DeSardi, with warming Rhodes licks and background spoken word samples riding rolling deep house beats and a deliciously jazzy bassline. Flip-side opener 'Boing' is a lightly tech-tinged and pleasingly low-slung exercise in groove manipulation (with trippy noises aplenty) while alternate 'Boing Boom Shax' is an infectious, stripped-back drum dub.
