Rob & Si – Moneyshot EP

Review: A cult slab of early 2000s tech house, this reissue captures Rob Pearson and the late Simon Copleston in peak form. Originally surfacing on Drugsex Recordings-a short-lived NYC imprint co-founded by the UK duo-it's a three-tracker steeped in rolling funk and shadowy atmospheres. 'Moneyshot' is the obvious heater: chunky drums, muted horns and a sleazy bassline that slinks with intent. 'Surface Static (Fuzz Mix)' cools the tempo but not the tension, trading punch for pressure in a woozy haze of hiss and delay. The Iteration X remix twists things further, with dubbed-out sax lines and deep-space groove, pushing the source material into smokier, more psychedelic territory. With fresh mastering from Marco Pellegrino, it's a timely reminder of a rawer, headier era-when UK tech house still had bite and weirdness in its bones.
