Chicago house legend Paul Johnson made a lot of fantastic music during his lifetime, though little as fondly remembered as ‘Get Get Down’, a Hamilton Bohannon-sampling gem that became a global dancefloor anthem following its release in 1999. This Groovin’ Record reissue rounds up some of the strongest mixes of the track released at the time and since – and as many of you will know, there have been a lot of them. Johnson’s original extended mix – a piano stab and scat vocal-heavy number driven forwards by unfussy bassline and one of house music’s most infectious basslines – is accompanied on side one by a handy ‘Loopapella’ of Johnson’s famous vocal refrain. Over on the flip, Get Get Nairo’s driving, Latin House style revision is followed by the rave riff-sporting madness of the ‘XXX remix’.
